This Sunday I am speaking at our church visitor meeting on the subject “Father of the Fatherless”. This was a subject given to me but I was pleasantly surprised as the thought of God as our Father has been something very close to my heart over the past year. Infact it was almost a year ahead ago to the date when I wrote as song called Take Every Part. It was my reflections on the how God viewed me as his child based on the story of the prodigal son and the account of Jesus’ baptism.
Over the past year or so God has revealed to me His unconditional love. He said of Jesus at his baptism “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.” Jesus hadn’t even begun his ministry yet! Sometimes we seek to please our heavenly Father by our works, we look to gain acceptance by our deeds. However our Father in heaven doesn’t judge us on what we do but on who we are, He is delighted because we are His child not because we are a minister or missionary. I have no doubt that it pleases God when I am moving rightly in His will, but the foundational love God gives to me is unconditional and He loves me just as I am.
