When visiting on different church on Sunday there was something I heard that struck me, something i have heard in different contexts before and wonder what impact it should have on the way we approach life and ministry. To paraphrase:
When we present the gospel as something that is going to be hard, sacrificial etc people are drawn to it. When we say Jesus loves you, He wants to bless you, people say, “no thanks”.
I wonder of this is because within ourselves we long for something more than ourselves. Scripture says eternity is written on our hearts, and I feel when we are presented with the call of God and who He is there is a natural reaction (pull to or strong resistence). When we are presented with a God who just wants to make our lives better then we aren’t interested because we have other things that make our life good. We need to stop making the blessings of God a selling point for salvation. we need to surrender to God because He is God and with out Him we are in big trouble.

Daniel, servant of the living God! Was your God, whom you worship continually, able to rescue you from the lions?
