Today I read this verse in 1 Samuel 21. The setting is that the Priest has said they can eat the Temple bread is they haven’t slept with any women recently (i’m hoping he is refering to their wives and not just any women!). David replies:
I never allow my men to be with women when they are on a campaign. And since they stay clean even on ordinary trips, how much more on this one!
This made me think about when David sends for Uriah in order to cover up his adultery with Bathsheba. Uriah refuses to sleep with his wife and I wonder if it is David’s own standards (which have clearly slipped by then) that cause Uriah not to unknowingly cover up David’ sin.

Daniel, servant of the living God! Was your God, whom you worship continually, able to rescue you from the lions?
